Today’s guest is Joley Michaelson, CEO of The Sun Company. I first met Joley at Verego Solar and then we worked closely together at SolarCity where she was the National Director of Sales. We quickly realized that our values are aligned and share so much in common. Joley is a bold and inspiring leader that has uncompromising ideals and values no matter what she sets off to do.
As you will see in this show, Joley Michaelson is a firm believer in avoiding what she calls value extraction at the expense of her employees, her customers, her shareholders, or even her vendors and that it can be a win-win for everyone involved if you are committed to the belief that you don’t need to win at the expense of someone losing. In many respects, Joley is a change agent, and is building her business is a way that others should take note.
On the show, Joley shares why she has built a values-based relationship organization and why she believes aligning your values with your business is the most important thing an entrepreneur can do for their success. She talks about the distinction between having repeat buyers versus loyalty customers and that the decision-making process is based on love and trust or fear and doubt.
As she explores these themes, it’s clear that Joley is an intentional leader and thinks about the implications of each decision that is made at her company, which is why she threads every business objective through the lens of the company’s core values. The result, she has created a “bottom-line plus” company that cares about all the people involved, where profit is the by-product of the business, not the sole objective.
Joley brings this same intentionality to her personal life as she shares her morning routine that has been a critical part of her success and development as a person. As a mother of 5 and committed executive with a purpose, Joley provides many deep and powerful insights that should inspire any leader or entrepreneur. She even opens up about some painful suffering that occurred early in life that helped her realize the value of forgiveness and grace while also establishing the core belief that she is 100% responsible for the direction her life goes. This attitude and belief has driven Joley to accomplish amazing things and I’m excited to share her approach to life and business on this episode of Insight Out!
